Jade Hylton
Founder (2022), Director
Black Brighton (Market) was created by Brighton Creative Entrepreneur and Life Model; Jade Hylton. It stemmed from her making friends of colour due to the lack of them her life growing up in Brighton. This then turned into a photography project that brought people from the community together, creating a sense of family and solidarity. Now with a growing community in a predominately white city, Jade has found herself doing more and more for people like herself, always trying to introduce new ways to create, communicate, and educate.

Joe Suddell is the manager of our permanent residency: The Actors pub. With great communication before, during and after each event.

GENIE DESIGN & PRINT
“Founded in 2007, Genie has grown significantly over the years, both in team size and premises. Our studio consists of print and finishing teams, designers and artworkers – all equipped with the latest in print and design facilities. We are driven by a love of print, digital design, environmental ethics and a passion for people to provide an expansive range of print solutions.”
The BBM founder – Jade Hylton – has been in events and marketing for many years, and always wanting to use local services, Genie has always been a number one choice not only for customer service but also for quality. When Jade started BBM on a very low budget, she reached out to Genie and asked if they would like to support the need for their services, since then they have given Jade a discount on all services.
LUSH COSMETICS
“At Lush we can’t keep quiet about the things we care about. Sometimes it is anger at how animals are treated, or sadness about the treatment of fellow humans and panic over the progress of climate change and our fragile planet.
When running campaigns about these issues through our shops and websites we always partner with activist, grassroots charities and campaign groups who spend their lives working on the featured issue.”
Lush Brighton has been donating items to the Black Brighton market team and traders since the very beginning, as soon as they caught wind of what we did and what we stood for. They have been donating items that ease the shoulders of traders lugging stock to market days, hand cream for the artists who are crocheting and stitching dreams, bath bombs to soak and warm the bones of us who have been standing and telling our story of creation to turn our tales into livelihoods.

MID STREET LAB
“Brighton-based, artist-led organisation, championing non-mainstream local practitioners, community wellbeing and mental health through contemporary art exhibitions, visual awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives.”
Jean, who is the founder of Mid Street Lab, responded to Jade’s call out for financial support in 2025 for a variety of marketing, merchandise and staff costs. Jean was wonderful enough to offer support on the cost of printing, specifically our flyers, that are small but mighty. The power of the flyer can reach far and wide and we are so appreciative of this support for this ongoing marketing necessity.
SWAT MARKETING
“Established in 1998 the SWAT team have grown strong from their grassroots in the Brighton & Hove arts community & leisure industry. With over 25 years of experience our local knowledge is invaluable and unbeatable.”
Like with Genie, Jade reached out to the SWAT team in an attempt to ask for help in promoting the first few markets back in 2022. Having initially offered a discounted price for a set period, the SWAT team saw the importance of this project and decided to extend their help, printing and posting BBM events throughout the city.
